As a first-generation student, Cameron obtained his BSc and PhD at the University of Alberta. During his PhD, Cameron studied how respiratory syncytial virus enters cells and identified insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor as a new host cell surface receptor for the virus. Cameron did his postdoctoral training at the University of Virginia, where he used systems biology to define three ways human hearts respond to viral infection and functionally tested the relationships between the responses. In 2026, Cameron started his lab at Miami University, where he studies respiratory viral infections using a hybrid wet-dry lab approach.
Apart from lab work, Cameron enjoys growing spicy peppers to make hot sauce and playing with his dog, Moose. Cameron also loves puns and bad jokes in general.
